Sample fine wines and join the Friends of Mahopac Library at their 3rd Annual Wine Tasting on Thursday, October 24, 6-8 pm at Sterling Cellars in Mahopac. Live music will be performed by Paul Murphy, and a delicious selection of hors d’oeuvres will complement the wine selections. Admission to the wine tasting is free. Raffle drawings will be held for two grand prizes this year: a beautiful handmade quilt entitled “Moonlight Log Cabin,” that was created by The Butterfly Quilters in brilliant shades of blue and green. This stunning quilt is on display at the Library along the stairway above the Information Desk. The other outstanding prize is a golf outing for four with carts donated by Putnam County Golf Course. Raffle tickets are available at the wine tasting event, or in advance at Mahopac Public Library’s Information Desk. Raffle tickets are $2 each or three tickets for $5.
There will also be a special drawing for a bottle of fine wine at the tasting for anyone joining the Friends of Mahopac Public Library or renewing their annual membership at the event. The Friends are grateful for the support of Sterling Cellars which will donate twenty percent of the proceeds from sales of the featured wines to benefit the Library. Sterling Cellars is located at Mahopac Village Center, 179 Route 6, Mahopac (near the A&P).
The Friends of Mahopac Public Library is a not-for-profit group dedicated to supporting the library to serve our community. The Friends reach out to local government and the community, regularly advocating on behalf of the library. Funds raised by this volunteer group support a wide variety of programs such as summer reading programs for both adults and children, a recent Concert of Life and Remembrance, and the Museum Pass Project. In the past year the Friends have funded the purchase of new bookcases, new computers for early childhood programs, and video production equipment. Ongoing support is also provided to build the Library’s collection of books, music, video and databases.
The Charlie & Jean King Book Barn is the Friends’ primary, ongoing fundraising effort. Located on the basement level of the library, the Book Barn offers over 20,000 gently used books for sale, most for just one dollar. The newly renovated Book Barn is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 7 p.m.; Wednesdays from 10 am to 5 pm, Fridays from 10 am to 4 pm, and Saturdays from 1 to 4 pm. Call the library at 845-628-2009 to check for any changes to this schedule. Book Barn Lobby Selections are available and may be purchased during regular Library hours.
