News from Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES on an upcoming concert:
Mahopac High School music teacher, Jennifer Vara, is orchestrating a concert June 29 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Mr. Gug’s Countryside Inn in Carmel to benefit Young Survivors Coalition, an organization that helps young women afflicted with breast cancer.
The concert, preliminary to an upcoming fund-raising bike ride from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C., includes music by the Mahopac Pacapellas, a student chorus, and the JP Acoustic Quartet, featuring Vara, Eileen Olifiers-Whalen, Danielle Andretta and Erin Geary.
The dual concert and bike ride are in response to the experience of Vara’s cousin Jamie Pleva, a cancer survivor, whose sister Tracy died from the disease. “We are riding from Philadelpha to Washington (yes, on bicycles) to raise money and awareness,” Vara said. “Jamie did this a few years ago just one year out of chemo.
Raffles, door prizes and drink specials are planned at the concert, with a $10 suggested donation at the door.
